Overview and Location
Ningbo University of Finance & Economics (NBUFE) is situated in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province—a city renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage and its status as a modern international port. As a leading application-oriented undergraduate institution, NBUFE specializes primarily in economics and management, while embracing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates economics, management, engineering, humanities, and arts.

Institutional History and Milestones
Founded in 2001, NBUFE officially became a full-fledged undergraduate institution in 2008. In 2015, it was selected as one of Zhejiang Province’s first pilot universities for application-oriented undergraduate education. The following year, it earned recognition as a “National Model Institution for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education.” In 2018, the university was renamed from Ningbo Dahongying University to Ningbo University of Finance & Economics, marking a significant new chapter in its development.
Campuses and Facilities
NBUFE operates across three campuses—Haishu Campus, Hangzhou Bay Campus, and Xiangshan Campus—covering over 1,700 mu (approximately 1.13 million square meters) with a total building area of 780,000 square meters. These campuses provide comprehensive facilities to support education, research, and student life.

NBUFE offers 45 undergraduate programs and currently enrolls nearly 20,000 full-time undergraduate students. The university comprises 13 academic units, including:

Faculty and Staff
The university employs over 1,500 faculty members, including nearly 400 PhD holders. Among them, 31.3% hold senior professional titles, and 51% are recognized as dual-qualified professionals. NBUFE is also home to over 100 high-level talents, including recipients of prestigious national and provincial talent programs.
Academic Excellence and Recognition
NBUFE has been awarded four national-level first-class undergraduate program development projects and seven provincial-level first-class programs. It features four emerging and distinctive provincial disciplines, seven key provincial disciplines, five national-level first-class courses, and 127 provincial-level first-class courses.
Research and Innovation Achievements
Over the past five years, NBUFE has secured 200 provincial and national research projects, including 25 funded by the National Social Science Foundation. The university has received numerous provincial awards, and its policy research reports have gained recognition from provincial and ministerial leaders. Students have excelled in academic and innovation competitions, obtaining over 2,790 provincial-level and above awards, including more than 1,400 national and international awards.
Industry-Education Integration and Entrepreneurship
Aligned with regional economic development and emerging industries, NBUFE actively promotes industry-education integration. It has established 10 modern industry-oriented schools, including the Institute of Commodity Business and the Great Wall Business School, in collaboration with enterprises. The university is also a pioneer in entrepreneurship education, having established an Entrepreneurship College and offering an undergraduate program in Entrepreneurship Management. Its Business Model Laboratory (BM-Lab) is recognized nationally and provincially as an innovation space.
Teaching Innovation and Student Development
NBUFE collaborates with high-tech enterprises to develop smart learning environments, enhance course quality, and implement AI-driven classroom monitoring. Initiatives such as the Star Teaching Awards, Applied Teaching Qualification Certification, and Undergraduate Comprehensive Mentorship Program provide students with multi-tiered academic and professional guidance. The Excellence Talent Development Plan offers personalized study pathways and honors degree opportunities, empowering students for future success.
Research Platforms and Regional Contributions
The university has established multiple high-level research bases, including the Digital Economy and Open Economy Integration Innovation Research Base and the Regional Industry Innovation Research Base. These platforms support interdisciplinary research and industry-academia collaboration, providing expertise in fields such as commodity circulation, SME innovation, financial big data technology, cultural heritage preservation, and film industry management.
International Collaboration and Exchange
NBUFE maintains long-term partnerships with over 50 universities and institutions worldwide, offering credit transfer programs, short-term exchanges, and study-abroad initiatives. Key collaborations include partnerships with institutions in the USA, UK, Slovakia, Hungary, South Korea, Singapore, and Macau. Notably, the China-Slovakia Silk Road College, co-founded with Bratislava University of Economics and Management, is among Zhejiang Province’s first "Belt and Road Silk Road Colleges."
