Overview and Location
Ningbo University of Finance & Economics (NBUFE) is situated in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province—a city renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage and its status as a modern international port. As a leading application-oriented undergraduate institution, NBUFE specializes primarily in economics and management, while embracing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates economics, management, engineering, humanities, and arts.

Institutional History and Milestones
Founded in 2001, NBUFE officially became a full-fledged undergraduate institution in 2008. In 2015, it was selected as one of Zhejiang Province’s first pilot universities for application-oriented undergraduate education. The following year, it earned recognition as a “National Model Institution for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education.” In 2018, the university was renamed from Ningbo Dahongying University to Ningbo University of Finance & Economics, marking a significant new chapter in its development.
Campuses and Facilities
NBUFE operates across three campuses—Haishu Campus, Hangzhou Bay Campus, and Xiangshan Campus—covering over 1,700 mu (approximately 1.13 million square meters) with a total building area of 780,000 square meters. These campuses provide comprehensive facilities to support education, research, and student life.

Faculty and Staff
The university employs over 1,500 faculty members, including nearly 420 PhD holders. Among them, 31.3% hold senior professional titles, and 51% are recognized as dual-qualified professionals. NBUFE is also home to over 100 high-level talents, including recipients of prestigious national and provincial talent programs.
Academic Excellence and Recognition
NBUFE has been awarded four national-level first-class undergraduate programs and seven provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs. We also offer four emerging specialty programs and seven key strength programs. Additionally, there are five national-level first-class courses and 127 provincial-level first-class courses. The university boasts four provincial-level first-class disciplines and five distinctive disciplines at the city level.
Research and Innovation Achievements
Over the past five years, NBUFE has secured 200 research projects at the provincial, ministerial, and national levels, including 24 national-level projects. The university has received 16 provincial and ministerial awards, including the Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, and 25 policy advisory reports have received endorsements from leaders at the provincial and ministerial levels. We have initiated and developed 102 Ministry of Education projects focused on collaborative education between industry and academia. Students have excelled in academic and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, obtaining over 3,580 provincial-level and above awards, including more than 1,675 national and international awards.
Industry-Education Integration and Entrepreneurship
Aligned with regional economic development and emerging industries, NBUFE actively promotes industry-education integration. In partnership with enterprises, we have co-established ten modern industry colleges and specialty schools, including the Commodity Business School and the Great Wall Business School, enhancing our collaborative education model and receiving provincial support for one key modern industry college. We were the first among similar institutions nationwide to establish an entrepreneurship college that integrates university-business collaboration and to launch an undergraduate program in entrepreneurship management. Our Business Model Laboratory (BM-Lab) has been recognized as a national and provincial maker space, creating a multi-level entrepreneurial education system that fosters the integration of specialized and applied talent development.
Teaching Innovation and Student Development
NBUFE collaborates with high-tech enterprises to develop smart learning environments, enhance course quality, and implement AI-driven classroom monitoring. We regularly conduct evaluations for star-rated educators and certification for applied teachers to foster innovation in teaching and enhance their capability to cultivate applied talents. Additionally, we implement a mentoring system for undergraduate students to support their comprehensive development and activate a talent growth incentive program, offering personalized training plans and honorary degrees to empower students in their growth and success.
Research Platforms and Regional Contributions
The university has established multiple high-level research platforms that support interdisciplinary research and industry-academia collaboration, providing expertise in fields such as commodity circulation, SME innovation, financial big data technology, cultural heritage preservation, next-generation electronic information technology, visual design, and film production. The Digital Supply Chain and AI Collaborative Innovation Center has been recognized as a provincial innovation center. Additionally, the Digital Economy and Open Economy Integration Innovation base and Regional Industry Innovation Research base are approved soft science research bases in Zhejiang. Five research bases have been recognized in Ningbo, including the Digital Economy Innovation and Free Trade Zone Linkage base. The Ningbo Research Center for Business Culture and the Ningbo Financial Culture Research Center are designated key cultural research bases. In 2022, the university received the China Industrial-Academia-Research Cooperation Promotion Award.
International Collaboration and Exchange
NBUFE maintains long-term partnerships with over 50 universities and institutions worldwide, offering credit transfer programs, short-term exchanges, and study-abroad initiatives. Key collaborations include partnerships with institutions in the USA, the UK, Australia, Slovakia, Hungary, South Korea, Singapore, and Macau, China. Notably, the China-Slovakia Silk Road College, co-founded with Bratislava University of Economics and Management, is among Zhejiang Province’s first "Belt and Road Silk Road Colleges." The university has also established the "Slovak Education and Research Center" in partnership with universities in Central and Eastern Europe. Each year, hundreds of faculty and students take part in overseas exchange and visiting scholar programs. The university also hosts various international conferences and bilateral meetings, showcasing a diversified development trend in international research collaboration models and types.
