The University has established a comprehensive industry-university collaboration framework to meet the demands of regional socio-economic development and emerging industries. Guided by the principles of innovation and entrepreneurship, the University has implemented top-level strategies to reform its talent cultivation model, with a focus on the innovative “Dual-College System.”
Modern Industry Colleges and Specialized Institutes
Our distinctive colleges serve as key platforms to address the demand for skilled professionals in emerging industries and new business sectors. By leveraging traditional academic schools and integrating relevant disciplines, these colleges focus on specialized talent cultivation. They operate in partnership with industry enterprises and alliances, based on the principles of “joint talent cultivation, shared resources, and mutual accountability.” This collaboration has resulted in the creation of distinctive colleges, including Modern Industry Colleges and Specialized Institutes, which are typically governed by a council under the leadership of a dean. Internal management staff collaborate with traditional academic schools to form the “Dual-College” mechanism, ensuring synergy in talent development.
Over the past decade, the Dual-College System has significantly enhanced the development of disciplines aligned with emerging industries, fostered innovative approaches to talent cultivation, advanced applied research, improved practical teaching environments, preserved traditional culture, and strengthened the training of application-oriented faculty. These efforts have resulted in a steady supply of highly skilled professionals for industry needs. The University’s distinctive colleges represent a proactive approach to deepening industry-university integration, aligning academic programs with regional industry demands, engaging with society, and securing external resources and support. The project “Exploration and Practice of the Dual-College System for Training Talent in Emerging Industries” was awarded the Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement Award (Second Prize).
Building on the success of seven existing distinctive colleges, such as the Commodity Business School, Entrepreneurship College, and Family Wealth Research Institute, the University has restructured and established 10 new distinctive colleges in alignment with evolving industry partnerships and education policies. These include six Modern Industry Colleges and four Specialized Institutes. Notably, the Modern Logistics Industry College for Commodities has been designated as a key provincial Modern Industry College support project and, along with the Digital Creative Industry College, has been recognized as a “Typical Case of Modern Industry Colleges Joint Innovation Platform” in China.
Practice-Based Education and Industry Integration Projects
The University places a high priority on industry-university collaboration projects and the development of practical education bases. Over the past five years, the University has undertaken 71 Ministry of Education “Industry-University Collaboration and Talent Development”projects, 13 “Supply-Demand Alignment Employment” projects, and one “China-Foreign Cultural Exchange All-Media Industry-University Integration” project. At the provincial level, the University has launched 12 industry-university collaboration initiatives and established four provincial-level model off-campus practice teaching bases, including a municipal talent training base for the integrated circuit (microelectronics) industry. Additionally, seven city-level projects have been funded under the “Five-in-One” Industry-University Collaboration Initiative.
To further strengthen practical education, the University has introduced the “Regulations on the Construction and Management of Off-Campus Practice Teaching Bases” and has established 70 university-level demonstration practice bases. The University maintains over 300 active practice and internship bases, ensuring dynamic and high-quality opportunities for students to gain real-world experience.
This comprehensive approach to industry-university collaboration reflects the University’s commitment to aligning academic programs with industry needs, fostering innovation, and preparing students for the challenges of emerging industries.
